It is possible to make extra cash from photography even to eventually give up the day job and work full time as a photographer. Where do you start? This really depends at the level of photography and personal confidence you are at.

So due to the high expectations of the families involved with the wedding I am going to suggest that this not the best place to start if you don’t have good photographic ability and confidence, I have seen lots of really good photographers totally traumatized by wedding experiences, weddings are not for the faint of heart especially when just starting out on your photographic journey.

In my opinion this is a better place to start children’s portraits can be very rewarding both financially and an enjoyable experience. The chance to enjoy and capture children at play and record it for the parents and families to treasure for a lifetime is both a privilege and pleasurable experience, whilst all the time honing your photographic skills. Children’s portraits can be lots of fun to do whilst all the time building confidence and skill sets, as time goes this new found confidence will soon extend to trying family photography ideas and other portrait assignments.
Digital Photography Ideas.
This is a vast subject and perhaps one that can’t be totally covered in one article, through digital photography a whole new world has opened up to photographers. More and more buyers need photographs for websites, billboards, magazines, adverts etc. where do they get them from? They mainly use stock photography agencies, this is where you the photographer, can earn some money.
Photographs are taken then uploaded to different websites for sale to anyone who needs photographs, be it for websites, advertisements, flyers, brochures, posters, wall art and fine art in fact for any reason. This could be your own website but at the start more likely a stock photography website.
This is a long term project but it can be a very rewarding one especially for photographers needing to build up confidence and skills. These stock photographs can be taken at any time and of any subject; on holidays or days out, beach scenes, city views, rural images, plants, animals, rivers, walks anything you can think of they need to be good quality, focused, well exposed together with vibrant colours.
A range of photographs will be required, start with say one hundred and upload to a stock website and each time they are used you get a commission (perhaps better described as share of the fee) it may only be a small amount of money, but as you add to your stock images by uploading more on a regular basis, your sales and commissions will increase until you have a regular passive type income from your photographic passion.
It should be pointed out that you need to check out any requirements of the stock agencies first, and you will need to be able to select keywords or descriptions of each image as you upload them to the site which will help your prospective customers find your images on the site. Of course you could use your own website to sell your images but you will need to be a known photographer, so at the start the stock agencies are the best option but after that anything is possible.
It is possible starting today to earn money from your photographic passion just pick one of these photography ideas and run with it and maybe before you know it your passion will become your job and they do say if you earn your living from your passion you will never ‘work’ another day.
